QUINTA DA MARINHA

Located on the famous Estoril Cascais Coast, 25 km from Lisbon, Quinta da Marinha Golf Course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr. 
Set in a private estate of 110 hectares, wooded with pine trees, it is part of Quinta da Marinha Golf Resort complex.Elevated greens and tees, combined with many bunkers in play and some water hazards, Quinta da Marinha Golf Course is a par 71 that offers fantastic panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra Mountains. Every hole is different, you will have to use all the clubs in the bag and play with strategy to make a good score.
The most spectacular hole on the Quinta da Marinha Golf Course is Hole No.3, a Par 4 of 339 meters sloping down towards the sea. Once on the green, the golfer has the Atlantic Ocean as background. The following Hole No.4, a Par 3, requires a very precise shot for the ball to cross a cliff and reach a wide but not very deep green.For the most, the fairways face inland with the beautiful outline of the Sintra mountain range forming their background. Many bunkers and a number of lakes at Quinta da Marinha Golf Course make the player's task even more difficult. Hole No.18, for instance, has a green entirely surrounded by water.

CLUBE DE GOLF DO ESTORIL

Estoril golf course has existed since 1929 in its first nine-hole version and was commissioned by Fausto Figueiredo, holder of the game award at the Casino do Estoril. Its first architect was Jean Gassiat and the 18-hole course that followed was designed in 1945 by Mackenzie Ross, one of the best architects of golf courses in the world. Subsequently, the field was modified to allow the construction of a part of the Lisbon / Estoril motorway, a design that belonged to the French architect Jean Jean. In this transformation, hole number 9 disappeared, there was a change of the course of the hole number 13 - the famous hole of the Patiño-? that now has a dogleg to the right, being the second shot thrown of the place where the old green was situated; It is now in a higher position. With the disappearance of hole number 9 it was necessary to build another hole, which is now the 13th, a par 3 of 160 meters. Finally, hole number 16 had its green redesigned, but still being a par 3 of 186 meters, less 15 meters, so that the former, considered by many players as one of the best holes of Portuguese golf courses. The pair is 69 (34 35), a total of 5313 meters. Internally, the Estoril golf course has another nine-hole course normally used by beginners, the Blue Course.

BELAS CLUBE DE CAMPO

Belas Clube de Campo is an 18 hole course planned with great international and national tournaments in mind. The architect responsible was William (Rocky) Roquemore, and his particular mark is evident in the fairly small bunkers which are strategically placed along the fairways up to the greens. Holes 2, 3 and 5 are a good example of Roquemore style. He designed the course totally in accordance with the plans of Charles Franzman, where the houses are built on top of the hills, overlooking a golf course winding in and out of the valleys below, thus benefitting from a certain protection from the wind. A very precise tee off shot is required on hole 9, in order to place the ball in a position whereby the second shot can reach the green, avoiding the ravine and the lake on the right hand side. Holes 10,11 and 15 are all difficult in their own way. A good tee shot is required for hole 10, whereas hole 11, because of the green which has two levels, requires a skilfull approach shot. The final shot for hole 15, a par 5, should be a good high shot to reach the green and avoid the bunkers surrounding it. The green on the 17th hole, a par 3, has a long bunker on the left and a lake on the right, consequently a very precise tee shot is necessary. Finally, hole 18, a par 4, has difficult rough all along the fairway and access to the green is complicated because of the bunkers on the left and the lake on the right.

LISBON SPORTS CLUB

The Lisbon Sports Club is located in Serra da Carregueira, Belas, circa 20 kilometres from Lisbon. The 18 hole circuit is one of the most original in the whole country: it is nested in a valley, making the most of the plains situated on the north side of the mountains. Since 1992 the LSC it prides itself on 18 holes, PAR 69, over 5,261 meters, with an extremely rich and beautiful forest biodiversity and a striking brook which runs throughout the entire course. The itinerary?s layout is that of a typical Scottish golf course. Inaugurated in 1964, with nine holes designed by Hawtree & Sons, it was initially extended to 14 and finally to 18. The holes are characterized by an assortment of different designs, which implies a range of different and interesting game possibilities. Some holes encompass criss-crossing paths, allowing golfers to intermingle along the course. The highlights of the LSC course are definitely holes number 1, 3 and 18, which stand out thanks to their natural beauty, unique layouts and relative difficulty. The first hole is a PAR 3 and it is 169 meters long. It showcases the whole LSC course, with tees about 10 metres higher than the green, which in turn is surrounded by four bunkers. The entire right side of the hole is escorted by a brook. Hole 3 is also a PAR 3, 176 meters long, and considered by many one of the most beautiful golf course holes in Portugal. It also features elevated tees and a brook in the middle of the fairway which follows the right side of the green. The vegetation is stunning, generating a unique layout. Hole number 18 is the biggest challenge for the players, not only for its length but also because it lays claim to a brook that meanders along the route to the green, this latter protected by two bunkers. Thanks to the existence of large amounts of water and an automatic irrigation system in all holes on the course, the quality of the fairways and greens of the LSC golf course is rather high all year round. This places the Lisbon Sports Club as one of the best in the whole Greater Lisbon area. The course displays a wide variety of vegetation and truly breathtaking scenery. One can often enjoy the sightings of animals such as rabbits and partridges, as well as a wide variety of birds, which presence and singing turn the time spent on the golf course even more enjoyable and relaxing. The inexistence of houses around the course, as well as the fact that the LSC is not integrated into any real estate development, has allowed the club to remain an extremely calm and resting facility, unique situation amongst golf clubs in the Greater Lisbon area.
